ARCHON ANGEL Fallen

Archon Angel was born out of a collaboration between former Savatage vocalist Zak Stevens and Secret Sphere guitarist and producer Aldo Lonobile. On the songwriting side the duo has received creative help from a few prominent personalities of the Italian metal scene, such as Simone Mularoni (DGM and Sweet Oblivion) and Alessandro Del Vecchio (Edge Of Forever, Jorn). The album itself deals with a central character, the "Archon", who is a modern day angel figure. The idea goes back to the religious system of Gnosticism. The only difference is that we are immersing the Archon's story into modern-day times. The Archon is a medium who brings messages to God (Demiurge) from the people of Earth. The only real concept to the album is that they simply follow the story and life and times of the modern day "Archon" and his life as he is called upon to protect the people of earth through frightening, turbulent times. So what about the music then? Well, “Fallen” is a really fresh sounding album consisting of ten excellent songs wrapped in a modern and crystal clear production that suits the material really well. With Zak’s very charismatic voice involved it’s impossible not to draw parallels to Savatage, and there are similarities for sure but without being too obvious. That doesn’t only go for the vocals but also some of the melody lines and song structures drops a hint or two towards Tampa’s greatest sons. With that said elements of Secret Sphere are also very present in Archon Angel’s sound and all together it sounds exciting, atmospheric and bombastic. ‘Fallen’ is by far the most played album at my home at the moment and I’m sure it will end up as a strong contender to the album of the year when that time comes. If you consider yourself a fan of either Savatage or Secret Sphere ‘Fallen’ is an absolute must, but any fan of energetic and catchy heavy metal with a symphonic and progressive edge should check out this one as well.
