HAREM SCAREM United
HotThose of you with musical preferences within the AOR/melodic hard rock genre, Harem Scarem is probably a familiar name since these Canadians have been around for thirty years now. Forming members Pete Lesperance (guitars) and singer Harry Hess are still going strong, rejoined by original drummer Darren Smith while new guy Stan Miczek is handeling the bass duties. According to the biography Smith's contribution on this album is limited to backing vocals while drums were recorded by longtime drummer Creighton Doane. On live shows though Smith will be the man behind the drums. Anyway, lets focus on the music. Harem Scarem's music is basically based around the traditional AOR/melodic hard rock receipe, they only do it better and more convincing than most other bands within this genre. Solid musicanship and great lead and harmony vocals is one thing, but the main secret behind the greatness of this album lies in the song material which is impressingly strong. Just listen to tracks like 'Gravity' and 'Bite the bullet' and be convinced. The rest of the material follows close behind as well, well wrapped into an excellent production. Recommended.
