RAVENSCRY Release 'The Gatekeeper' Lyric Video and Single
| Written by Edvardsen | Hits: 699
Italian melodic-metallers RAVENSCRY have released their new lyric video and single for ‘The Gatekeeper‘, the track is taken from the forthcoming studio album ‘100‘, which will be out on May 15th, 2020. The video can be viewed below.
RAVENSCRY say: “The Gatekeeper is a song rich in tight rhythms and changes of atmosphere, giving voice to all the emotional charge that can be found in the desire for personal revenge. The ideas for this song came up from our new guitarist Federico Schiavoni and this is the very first song he wrote with us: without giving up the melodic mood of Ravenscry, Fede managed to represent in music the anger against a society that tends to diminish our talents. We think this song can give a good boost to motivating energy!”
The video was produced by Martin Vrigsjö Staflin. Cover design by Mario Sánchez Nevado (Ashent, Native Construct).
Dramatically soaring vocals, bone-shaking rhythms and darkly real songwriting.
‘100‘ Tracklist:
01 – Maybe 02 – Binary 03 – The Gamer 04 – The Door Inside 05 – The Entertainer 06 – Destination: Nowhere 07 – Light You Up 08 – Leader 09 – Paper Boat 10 – All My Faces 11 – The Gatekeeper
The album was produced by RAVENSCRY. Mixed by Roberto Laghi (In Flames, Mustasch, Sonic Syndicate). Mastered by Dragan Tanasković (In Flames, Dark Tranquillity, Evergrey). Artwork and graphics by Mario “Aégis” S. Nevado.
RAVENSCRY is a female-fronted, melodic-metal band from Italy who are currently launching back onto the global metal scene with their highly-anticipated, new album “100”. To this day, they have released three full-length albums, charted in the Spotify metal charts; and stacked up streams in the millions for a number of their smash singles. They have also worked with numerous famous producers, who have crafted the sound for icons like Alice Cooper, Steve Vai, Marilyn Manson, In Flames and Megadeth. Following the release of a highly ambitious concept album, “The Invisible” (2017), RAVENSCRY are back. More energy. More melody. Even smarter lyrics. The latest evolution of their sound is one that stays true to the core of their sound, whilst still being extra accessible for new listeners.
You may remember RAVENSCRY from the 2010’s, when they made their mark on the world with a number of smash singles and albums. Armed with infectious pop-fueled hooks and a devoted fanbase; their beautifully melodic and larger than life take on the metal genre, has been hooking millions of listeners for nearly a decade now. “100” is the name of the new album, and fans of the band may find themselves a little surprised when they hear the record. The album comes three years after the highly ambitious, “The Invisible”, a concept album that tells a complex and mystifying tale about coming of age. The band have decided to go back into the essence of what made them such a beloved melodic-metal act to start with. Just this time. Going even more into their melodic side — as to create catchy anthems that can be chanted in arenas for years to come. Sincere, intelligent and brutally honest — the album sums up the human experience to a tee, from the epic highs to the soul-crushing lows.
This isn’t the first time that RAVENSCRY have made history with a fresh new sound. Since their debut album “One Way Out” (2011), they have been steadily grinding their way up the ranks of the global metal scene. Even working with a number of top-tier producers and sound-engineers; who have crafted the sounds of icons like Alice Cooper, Steve Vai, Marilyn Manson, In Flames and Megadeth. “The Attraction of Opposites” (2014) was their second album, and saw the band spearhead a campaign to raise awareness about violence against women. The track “Alive” was released on International Women’s Day and continues to stack up streams in the millions on Youtube. They even charted at #31 on Spotify’s metal charts with their track “The Witness”. Then of course in 2017, was the release of their concept album “The Invisible”. Since then they have performed at a number of festivals around Europe and even toured with Angra and Geoff Tate’s Operation: Mindcrime on the Omni World Tour 2018. The band is also endorsed by Hughes & Kettner, Steinberg, Two Notes and Audio-Technica.

After some shows in Italy in 2012, Ravenscry began to work on the new album.
2014 - “The Attraction of Opposites”
Ravenscry’s second full length, “The Attraction of Opposites” was recorded in 2013 at Ravenstudio by the band itself, it was mixed by Roberto Laghi (In Flames, Diablo Swing Orchestra, Sonic Syndicate) at Bohus Sound Recording in Gothenburg and mastered by Dragan Tanasković (In Flames) still at Bohus Sound Recording studios. The artwork was designed by Stefano Mattioni (The Modern Age Slavery) and it has been nominated as “Best Metal Album Covers of 2014” by the American webzine PureGrainAudio.com. In the meantime Ravenscry became label, in order to have control on every single step of its work. Ravenscry played at PPM Fest in 2014 as the only Italian band in the bill, presenting the new album before the official release and reaching a good feedback from the audience. The single “Missing Words” was released as a video directed by Salvatore Perrone in April 2014. “The Attraction of Opposites” was released on May 27th 2014 and it is distributed worldwide (except Japan) by Revalve Records through Masterpiece Distribution. The album charted #6 in the Amazon.com best sellers Alternative Metal chart. In December 2014 Ravenscry funded the shooting of the new video “Noir Desire”, directed by Matteo Terzoli, through the crowdfunding platform “Musicraiser”, supporting a campaign to build consciousness about the Violence Against Women them, which lead to the release of a second video of the song “Alive” in on the International Women’s Day. In March 2015 Ravenscry charted on Spotify at #31 in “Top Metal Tracks” with “The Witness”.
2017 - “The Invisible”
“The Invisible”, the first concept album by Ravenscry, is the story of a journey, both physical and inner. Coral, the main character, is a young librarian assistant grown up in an orphanage. Books and physics are her biggest passions, and thanks to a book she decides to start her journey: on a book cover she sees a photo that shows a place which reminds her of her childhood and suddenly she feels the need to reach this place and hopefully get to know her origins. Every track of the album is a chapter of the train journey of the girl that, like in every other coming-of-age story, is very risky and difficult but is also a great opportunity to find independence and personal identity. Coral meets a travel buddy, a retired teacher who at first wants to fool her, but then changes his mind when he understands how special this girl is. With an unusual and seeming unconsciousness, Coral moves towards her nebulous past without any fear, almost as it doesn’t belong to her, and in every track she sings her emotions, accompanying the listener through the story with an incessant intriguing tension in a bizarre atmosphere of incompleteness which, only seemingly, culminates in the final encounter with her father. The poetic fragments of the songs and the booklet containing some interviews to the characters of the story complement each other, and together give birth to a clear, unquestionable and cruel picture: the Truth that we are looking for is fragile and incomplete. Science, religion and feelings, too, replace it and obfuscate it. Coral’s journey really ends only when the happy ending is denied, the certainties vanish and we stand alone facing an unpredictable and withering Truth. The journey of discovery of the Truth is also the one taken by the musicians, who wanted to release a very natural and direct album, in which the music goes with the story and gives voice to it in a relentless movement of different styles and sonorities. “The Invisible” has been recorded at Ravenstudio by Ravenscry, it’s been mixed at Oral Majority Recordings by Roberto Laghi and it’s been mastered at Hansen Studios by Jacob Hansen. The artwork has been designed by Mario Sanchez Nevado. The distribution is managed by Plastic Head Distribution. After participating in different European festivals, Ravenscry toured with Angra and Geoff Tate’s Operation: Mindcrime as a support act in the Omni World Tour 2018 playing across Europe.
2020 - “100”
The upcoming fourth album of the band is called “100” and is going to be released on May 15. This full length has been recorded at Timetrack Studios and Ravenstudio by Fagio (from the band itself) and Dario Ravelli of Suonovivo Recording Services. With this work the band confirmed its collaborations with Roberto Laghi for the mixing, Dragan Tanasković for the Mastering and Mario “Aégis” S. Nevado for the artwork. With more energy, more melody and even smarter lyrics, “100” stays true to the core of Ravenscry’s sound while remaining accessible enough to hook even more new listeners. Sincere, intelligent and brutally honest — the album sums up the human experience to a tee, from epic highs to soul-crushing lows. About the songwriting this is also the first work from Ravenscry featuring the contribution of the new band member Federico Schiavoni. On March 27 Ravenscry released “Maybe” as first single from “100”, and for the direction of the videoclip they confirmed, once again, their collaboration with Salvatore Perrone. About this song the band said: “‘Maybe’ is a sort of manifesto of the human condition. It talks about resilience, willingness and finding a way to carry on without any doubt. We hope that anyone listening to this song can find the same energy that we feel in it. ‘Maybe’ it will help somebody to find his/her inner strength.”
