GREYZONE Release The Madness
HotNorwegian band Greyzone was founded around 2010 and has since then toured both Norway, Denmark and Spain. In early 2013 the band entered Sono Studios in Prague to record their debut album “Release The Madness” which has now been out for a few months. In their biography Greyzone describe their style as a cross between Metallica, Iron Maiden and Judas Priest with a touch of newer bands such as Sabaton. I don’t think they sound very much like any of those except from the fact the vocals at times sounds pretty close to James Hetfield. This is basically traditional heavy metal with elements of power metal with lots of energy mixed with some well known heavy metal clichés both musically and lyrically. Despite the lack of originality the song material is quite strong with some really interesting melody and vocal lines. I especially like it when the vocal lines of Niclas Thomsen enters the landscape of Tony Moore of Riot. Greyzone also deserves credit for cool and catchy guitar riffs. I find this album really enjoyable and I’m sure most fans of traditional heavy metal, as well as power metal, will find it interesting to. Imagine something in between newer Metallica and Riot, and you should have a pretty good idea of what to expect.
