PATHOLOGY The Everlasting Plague
HotOver the past couple of decades a jungle of sub-genres have emerged within extreme metal in particular, and I have to admit that at times I find it hard to label bands to a specific category. When it comes to Pathology they have always belonged in the brutal end of the death metal genre, slamming brutal death metal to be more specific I guess. But with their last couple of albums they have gradually moved towards a cleaner sound, and this trend is probably more obvious than ever on The Everlasting Plague. It’s still brutal death metal for sure, but with a more technical approach to the songwriting and arrangements as well as adding some elements and effects to the sound that is typical in modern death metal. The production is cleaner and more detailed before and the vocals slightly more pronounced so (at least to a certain degree) it’s possible to actually hear the lyrics with a bit of goodwill. I’m sure there will be divided opinions among the bands long time fanbase, but I personally like this new expression a lot better than what they did on earlier albums. The song material on The Everlasting Plague is very strong, and in the end that’s what really matters isn’t it? If you are looking for well produced brutal death metal with a technical and modern twist this might be just what you have been waiting for.
