AETERNAM Ruins Of Empires
Hot‘Ruins Of Empires’ is third full length album from Canadian death metallers Aeternam, and I’ve been waiting in anticipation for this band to follow up their excellent 2012 release ‘Moongod’. Aeternam is by no means a mainstream death metal band since their music and lyrics are heavily inspired by Middle Eastern music and history. Yes, there are other bands following the same recipe but even though parallels could be drawn towards for instance Nile, at least when it comes to lyrical themes, Aeternams music is far more epic and melodic with effective use of keyboards and scales common for music from the far east. ‘Ruins Of Empires’ is an extremely consistent and thought through album both lyrically and musically. I love the way the guys blend heavy riffing, acoustic passages, bombastic keyboard arrangements and a fine mix of growling and clean vocals. All nine tracks are premium quality and the production is very good as well. Even though ‘Ruins of Empires’ isn’t a concept album it should be consumed from start to end to get the greatest benefit from it, not that each song doesn’t stand out on their own, but it’s the consistent entirety that really makes it stand out from the masses. Highly recommended.
