I have to admit I wasn’t familiar with this Ukrainian band before now, despite Scythian Stamm being their fifth full‑length release. Formed in 2005 under the name Hellion and rebranded as Hell:On in 2007, the band has clearly been active for quite some time. Without having heard their earlier work, I can’t comment on their evolution, but Scythian Stamm immediately grabbed my attention with its strong songwriting, tight execution, and aggressive, well‑produced sound.

Hell:On operates in a riff‑driven death metal framework, but they weave in a notable amount of thrash influence as well as slower, epic, and symphonic passages that lend the album a welcome sense of atmosphere and variation. The heavier, more straightforward sections evoke shades of Vader, particularly in the vocal delivery, while the grander, more atmospheric moments bring to mind the likes of Fleshgod Apocalypse. If you can imagine a fusion of those two worlds, you’ll have a fairly accurate picture of what Hell:On delivers here.

The album spans ten tracks and runs for roughly 56 minutes, offering plenty to absorb. Fortunately, the material maintains a consistently high standard throughout, supported by a modern, powerful production that enhances both the aggression and the more cinematic elements. I had no trouble staying engaged from start to finish.

For fans of old‑school‑leaning melodic and atmospheric death metal with a thrash edge, Scythian Stamm is well worth exploring. Highly recommended.
