HELL:ON Scythian Stamm
HotI must admit that I have never heard of this Ukrainian band before, even though Scythian Stamm is actually their fifth full length album. The band was formed in 2005 as Hellion, but changed their name to Hell:On in 2007. Since I haven’t heard any of their previous albums I can’t say anything about how they have developed over the years, but Scythian Stamm immediately caught my attention with it’s strong, well produced and aggressive sounding material. Their style is riff-based death metal with quite a few elements of thrash incorporated, as well as some nicely arranged slower epic and symphonic passages that gives the album an atmospheric feel providing the needed variation and excitement. While the more straight forward, heavy riffing parts gives me a certain Vader feel (vocals in particular) the more atmospheric parts has more of a Fleshgod Apocalypse vibe, so if you can imagine a blend of those two bands you should have a fairly good idea of what Hell:On is all about. The album consists of ten tracks with a runtime of about 56 minutes so it’s quite a bit to absorb here, but every single track is premium quality and blessed with an updated and powerful production so I have no problem enjoying this album from start to end. Highly Recommended.
