IVANHOE 7 Days

For some reason Ivanhoe is a band that I seem to have forgotten about over the years, dispite the fact that their excellent 1994 album 'Symbols of time' sorted among my favorite progressive metal albums around the time of it's release. That means that I don't know much about the four albums released in between 'Symbols of time' and this new one, but I guess I have to check them out later on. So what about this new album entitled '7 Days' then? Well, it's still well composed, melodic progressive metal just like I remember it from the mid nineties. It's a good album although it doesn't quite reach the heights of 'SoT'. The eight minutes long title track is probably my favorite on this album, but the rest of the material is quite good as well and the fact that I recognized their sound right away after all these years proves that Ivanohe has found their own unique expression within this genre. Singer Andy B. Franck left the band in 1996 and was replaced by Mischa Mang. This new album sees yet another change of lead vocalist. Alex Koch is the new kid in town and he does a very good job. Check out '7 days' if you like progressive metal.
