PROFANITY The Art Of Sickness

German band Profanity, who's history goes way back to 1993, was originally formed as a traditional death metal band but has gradually evolved towards the technical end of the death metal genre. Despite a carreer spanning over nearly 25 years 'The Art Of Sickness' is only their third full length album and their first in 17 years. 'The Art Of Sickness' is a modern sounding technical death metal album, no doubt about that, but you can also hear obvious elements of old school death metal in the vein of bands like Death and Atheist. There's tons of cool guitar work to be found on this album, both the typical single note riffs and harmonies that are so typical for this genre but also a few more thrashy power chord riffs to make it even more punchy and in your face. Thomas Sartor is an excellent guitarist, but he also delivers some really excellent growling vocals on this album. What really makes 'The Art of Sickness' stand out of the masses though, is an impressingly strong song material that comes with a really good production as well, and I'm sure it will appeal to fans of more traditional death metal as well as it will please the tech death hordes out there for sure.
