CONTRARIAN To Perceive Is To Suffer

I'm not quite sure how to categorize the music of New York based Contrarian to be honest, but I ended up defining it as progressive death metal. The music though is definitely more in the vein of traditional progressive metal and it's not too aggressive sounding either, while the vocals on the other hand belongs in the death metal genre. 'To Preceive Is To Suffer' is the second effort from these guys and I really like what I hear. Interesting song structures, nice guitar harmonies and a strong and cosistent song material makes this album well worth checking out. Without any further comparison I get a certain Death feel when listening to 'To Perceive Is To Suffer', and then I'm thinking Death as they sounded on their most melodic albums such as 'Symbolic'. I'm not 100 % satisfied with the production even though it's by no means poor, but that's basically also the only "negative" aspect I can find about this one. Recommended.
