Heading from Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, progressive death metal act Piah Mater are back with their second full length album entitled ´The Wandering Daughter´. The band was founded in 2010 and released their debut album ´Memories Of Inexistence´in 2014. I can´t remember having heard their debut, but I certainly have to give it a listen after having heard this new one. The first thing that campe to my mind when I first heard ´The Wandering Daughter´ was something like; "wow, this sounds like Opeth", and that is of course not a bad thing. Piah Mater is by no means a Opeth rip-off, but you can safely say that they are walking the same path that Mikael Åkerfeldt and his companions sadly decided to leave behind a few years ago. This is of course due to the way these guys are mixing death metal with progressive rock elements, and perhaps a few tiny hints of black metal as well. Songs are changing from pure death metal to silent atmospheric passages, and vice versa, within a blink of an eye. The album consists of six tracks, including a 3 minute long instrumental intro, with a total runtime of about 56 minutes. All tracks are premium quality, performed by extremely talented musicians and it all comes with a very good and organic production. I really enjoy listening to ´The Wandering Daughter´, and I´m sure you will to.....especially if you´re a fan of progressive death metal in the vein of Opeth as they sounded around the ´My Arms, Your Hearse´/ ´Still Life´area.
