WITHERSCAPE The Inheritance

WITHERSCAPE is the new project of Swedish singer, multi-instrumentalist and producer Dan Swanö and another multi-instrumentalist named Ragnar Widerbeg, where Swanö is responsible for vocals, keyboards and drums while Widerberg takes care of all guitar and bass parts on the album. ‘The Inheritance’ thick concept album split into different episodes and very briefly, the Witherscape story takes place in a remote village in northern Sweden in the late 1800’s. The concept story and the lyrics for the album are all written by Paul Kuhr from Novembers Doom. Musically this album sounds more or less like a crossover of all the previous Swanö projects, and you can easily hear elements of both Edge Of Sanity and Nightingale as well as Dan’s solo album. Some of the songs have a certain Opeth feel to them both rhythmically and due to the effective switching between death grunts and melancholic clean vocal parts. The quality of the song material is simply amazing, and of course cleverly arranged and produced by Mr. Swanö himself. ‘The Inheritance’ is definitely one of the best, if not the best album of 2013 and it should be an obvious ingredient in any serious metal collection.
